Tea at Tombo

At Tombo, you can enjoy carefully sourced teas from Japan, China, India and Sri Lanka. Our Japanese tea in particular is from one of the finest tea plantations from Kakegawa in Shizuoka, near Mount Fuji. This is the largest tea producing area in Japan and its elevation and climate is ideal for tea farms.

Japanese green tea is steamed, baked, or pan heated to prevent oxidation and thus the leaves remain green and retain the beneficial antioxidant properties (Catechins, Polyphenols, Tannins, Theanine and Flavonoids etc.) as well as a wide variety of vitamins and minerals.

Sen-cha (Fukamushi Sen-cha)

Classic and most popular green tea in Japan. Tombo’s choice is deep steamed Sen-cha. Deep steaming makes the tea taste sweet, sharp and richer. High in antioxidants, Vitamin C and even freshens the breath too!

Sakura Kuki-cha

Made from the stems of the tea plant and has the strongest alkalizing ability of any Japanese tea. The stems contain more fibre which gives the tea a light astringent taste. A hint of cherry blossom flavour makes the tea milder.

Hoji-cha

A lightly roasted green tea. The taste is toasty and refreshing which makes it a popular drink after meals. It is low in caffeine and offers the benefit of relaxation and better digestion.

Genmaicha with Matcha Powder

Sen-cha mixed with roasted brown rice grains. This gives the tea a nutty crisp flavor. Adding Matcha powder gives an extra richness and body to the toasty flavor of Genmai-cha.

Matcha Latte

Tombo’s Speciality Served Hot or Iced
Matcha is a kind of green tea and is famous for its use in the tea ceremony. Matcha is grown under cover for a period of time so that the leaves are protected from the sun bringing out lots of amino acids and sweet and rich flavours. It is then dried and very slowly ground by granite to a fine powder. For Matcha, only the tips of the plant are used. Tombo mixes sweetened Matcha powder with milk or Soya milk to make our ‘Matcha Latte’.
